Riding The Cog up Mount Washington...Totally Worth It!!!

Columbus Day weekend we took our crew to stay at our chalet at Linderhof Golf Course Retreat for my first Fall weekend in the White Mountains. I can't believe how many times I've visited the area, yet I've never been during one of the MOST beautiful times of year!

There was no shortage of things to do that weekend and I quickly found out that it's one of the busiest times of year in the area.

We discussed all of the options and decided on The Cog up Mount Washington which none of us have ever done before. We've all driven up the mountain by car, but this was a whole new experience for everyone. We are only about 15 minutes from the entrance to drive up by car, but our chalet is about 45 minutes from where you catch the train so we left an hour ahead of time.

Although pricey, The Cog was a once in a lifetime experience! The views were unmatched as we rode up in the back of the train on our way up, which turned into the front of the train on the way down. We could see as far as multiple bordering states! The foliage was PERFECT which we later found out we were in prime peak season. Everyone LOVED their time on this day.

The weather forecast would literally change from hour to hour, so I recommend watching it closely. We were forecasted for snowfall which turned into foggy weather, which ended up being clear, beautiful sunshine! We were prepared with hats, gloves, and coats and we were pleasantly surprised with what a nice day we were blessed with.

The entire trip took about 3 hours. We spent an hour going up the mountain at about 3-5 MPH followed by an hour at the top checking out the views, had a snack in the cafeteria and were able to use the restrooms, followed by just under an hour on the way back down.

This was fun for the whole family and I totally recommend it at least once during your visit to the area!
