We just got back from our 2nd annual Columbus Day weekend up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It is BY FAR the busiest time of year that we've visited the area and we've been up in January, February, May, 4th of July week, and the week of Christmas/New Year's!
Unfortunately, the weather wasn't very cooperative this year so we had to improvise a bit. We got to check out the Fryeburg Fair for the first time just 30 minutes over the line in Maine. The kids enjoyed all of the fair food and rides, and Luca especially enjoyed the miniature horse races.
We spent a rainy afternoon at Settler's Green enjoying some tax free shopping followed by dinner at Tuckerman's...our FAVORITE! To give an idea on how busy it was, we had to wait for about 25 people ahead of us in line to pay at Old Navy and over an hour for dinner even arriving just after the restaurant opened. But, it was well worth the wait!
Sunday morning my husband was accompanied by one of our teenagers to replace the water heater in one of our rentals while I took the little boys to Story Land. It was their last day open for the season and boy was it PACKED! We had to park across the street and wait in line for over an hour for the antique cars! Never doing that again! haha It was much more enjoyable over Father's Day weekend where we were able to ride a lot more rides than the total of 3 this previous weekend. The weather actually turned out nice for us that day, so I could not complain regardless. The kids enjoyed it thoroughly and it was just nice to be up there enjoying the change of scenery.
Lastly, we were able to try El Reparo which is the sister restaurant owned by the same people that own Fiesta Jalisco in North Conway and located closer to our properties. The drinks and service were amazing! The food left a bit to be desired so we are hoping they are still working out the kinks and will get to the same level as Jalisco because for the price, that's one of our top 3 up in the valley for sure!
Have you ever been to the White Mountains during Columbus Day weekend? If so, what did you enjoy doing while you were in town?
